After the Fall ...

It’s been a couple of weeks since the Super Bowl, and most people here have moved on. The local bar still has their sign up, though:

34th ANAL CHILI COOK-OFF
SUPER BOWL WEEKEND

This was the result of an unfortunate abbreviation error many years ago, but the folks at the bar liked it, so they do it every year now. It’s noteworthy that this tradition has been going on longer than the Seahawks have existed. Oh, well, I hope the chili caused less heartburn than the game did.

Some Pittsburgh loyalist sabotaged the Sultan High School marquee sign to read:

GOOD LUCK
WR STLERS

The errant E has since been returned.

.-. .. .--.

(Today’s title is in honor of the final demise of the telegraph in the U.S., which happened this week.)

Everybody here is on something (edge, tiptoes, pins and needles, or just on something) for tomorrow’s Super Bowl. Sultan is on U.S. Highway 2 on the way to Stevens Pass, and the normal rush of skiers that comes back down the pass on Sunday afternoons in winter is heading down on Saturday this weekend.

Anya’s school held a pep rally for the Seahawks yesterday, and Anya went in full regalia: blue and green clothing, blue and green face paint, and a big “12” on her forehead. Very cute.

Of course, nobody’s giving the Seahawks much of a chance in this game. However, the Seahawks’ coach -- Mike Holmgren -- was the coach of the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXI and XXXII. In the second game, nobody gave the opposing Denver Broncos much chance either, but as most of our family will recall, they won anyway. Hopefully Coach Holmgren remembers it.
